Types of Assault Charges
There are three types of assault matters, increasing in seriousness;
- Common Assault;
- Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm; and
- Assault Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm.
Defences to Assault

Penalties for Assault Charges
The penalties for being convicted of assault include fines, bonds and/or a custodial sentence.
If it is found that the offence involved violence, the matter becomes more serious and the chances of a custodial sentence being imposed are increased.
